Mission Statement

The Phobic Trust's Mission Statement is to:

Stimulate awareness and education of Anxiety, Phobic and Obsessive Compulsive disorders, alleviate the suffering of those involved, and provide input for research into the cause and management of these disorders.

The objectives of the Trust are achieved by:

  • Effective management of all resources.
  • Education of medical practitioners and other professionals.
  • Establishment of specialist clinics.
  • Use of trained volunteers on a 24-hour phone line.
  • Established local support groups and assisting support groups nationwide.
  • Research
  • Education of the general public and government bodies.

Achieving these objectives ensures:

  • Improved security and quality of life for the sufferers and their families.
  • Decrease the use of alcohol and substance abuse.
  • Greater efficiency of support systems.
  • Decrease the overall suicide rate.
  • Lower economic and social costs.

What we do:

  • Educate general public and Government. The education targets schools, General Practitioners, PHO’s, DHB’s, Corrections etc. Education is by way of international conferences, television, media and workplace/school training
  • Establish specialist ‘Anxiety Disorders Clinics’. The clinics are staffed by multi-disciplinary specialist teams, with treatment across the life span.
  • Provide consumer lead support groups for suffers and their family and friends
  • Train placements and intern psychologists with Auckland and Massey Universities.
  • The multi-disciplinary teams work one to one with clients and their families and run therapeutic groups.
  • International conferences held 3 yearly.
  • Actively collaborate with established learning institutes to undertake and publish research.
  • The Phobic Trust’s founder has written 4 published books. ‘Phobi Faces Fear’ is currently being animated for television.
