The helpline service is confidential and free of charge, and is the only one of its kind in New Zealand.
The Phobic Trust's Auckland Clinic is open from:
8.30am to 5pm Monday- Friday
8.30am to 1pm on Saturdays.
During these times all calls are answered by the Support Services Manager or another suitable staff member from the Anxiety Disorders Clinic.
After hours, the phones are manned by the volunteers, who willingly give up their time to help others.
After undergoing a comprehensive preliminary training process, all volunteers are able to provide information about the anxiety disorders, as well as assistance in the form of breathing and relaxation techniques, useful for people suffering from panic attacks and anxiety, distraction techniques, to help sufferers of obsessive-compulsive disorder, and various other proven coping techniques for dealing with anxieties. Volunteers are taught how to respond in a crisis call situation, they are also able to enlighten callers about The Phobic Trust's clinical services or refer them to any relevant support services in their area. All volunteers attend monthly meetings which include structured debriefing, supervision, peer review and specialized training.
The Phobic Trust of New Zealand welcome all Volunteers who wish to give something back to the community. If you are interested please call our office: (09) 846-9776
